Leverenz & Associates is a small, fast-growing agency that helps companies with brand strategy and public relations to grow their business. Our client roster is growing and we are looking for an Associate Consultant.

At our core, we are a PR agency, but have grown into something more because of our clients’ needs. We live for a challenge and know that teamwork, collaboration, and communication will light our path. We like to dream big and make things happen, but are also pragmatic with resources and honest about attainable goals. We are responsive to our clients and their environment. We pay attention. 

Our team is a group of professionals that have lived past lives before landing at the agency. Portland is our homebase and we are thoroughly networked in this city. We move fast and often work with industry leaders who have landed with us after trying other PR firms. We are looking to add someone to our team that fits this description:

  • You are curious about the intersection of business, consumers, and the news. You have favorite journalists, might even know a few of them, and you pay close attention to pop culture, business news, and cultural shifts that affect the way news is reported. You notice themes around what people talk about every day, have an idea of how they were formed because of your reading, and you know how to communicate why those themes are relevant. 

  • Your curiosity has allowed you to develop a strong understanding of industries, audiences, and revenue models, and you think it could result in strategies and creativity that you can articulate and will deliver solutions that meet client communications goals and objectives.

  • You’re inclined to read and understand news that directly and indirectly affects companies and individuals, and you can analyze and distill meaningful insights from media coverage.

  • You are interested in generating story ideas, topical angles, drafting media materials, and pitching media to earn client coverage while helping journalists and editors inform their audiences.

  • You’re insightful about leveraging influencers (e.g. client fans, investors, partners, bloggers and other relatable voices) to impact clients, their brands, and their storytelling goals.

  • You can provide thoughtful recommendations for content creation and distribution across multiple channels to support paid, owned and earned channels.

  • You’re interested in supporting business development, plan creation, and pitching.

  • You participate in office-wide initiatives, seminars and meetings to further professional learning and intellectual capital.

  • You actively participate in agency and individual development and growth.


Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, English, or Economics.

Up to three (3) years of education or experience in corporate communications, public relations, or investor relations, preferably in an agency or consulting environment.

Experience juggling multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment.

You have established relationships with current members of the media and you pay close attention to pop culture, business news, and cultural shifts that affect the way news is reported. You notice themes around what people talk about with relation to news every day.

As a member of the Leverenz & Associates team, you will have the opportunity to put a wide range of life and work experiences to task for clients while you expand what is possible to accomplish. Then, you will be given the tools, team, and connections to make it happen. We move fast and often work with industry leaders who have something important to tell the world. What we seek:

  • Your curiosity allows you to develop a strong understanding of client industries, audiences, and revenue models, and leads you into work with strategists and creative team members to deliver solutions that meet client goals and objectives

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or English

  • 5 - 10 years of relevant experience in corporate communications, public relations, or investor relations, preferably in an agency or consulting environment

  • Experience pitching and placing stories about clients in all tiers of news - samples required

  • Experience juggling multiple clients and supervising junior staff

  • Experience briefing and working with creative directors, graphic designers, and writers who contribute to corporate communications, PR, and social media initiatives

  • Deep professional or personal understanding of a geographic media market or vertical industry

  • Understanding of a professional services hourly billable biz model or willingness to learn
